Post-op care for shave biopsy

What you must do

• Treat the wound like you would any similar sore. Replace dressings/plasters daily. If the site doesn’t allow a dressing to be applied (e.g. on the scalp) Vaseline can be used as a protective layer.

• You may shower as normal. Just make sure to change the wet dressing afterwards, or apply fresh Vaseline.

What you must look out for

Complications from shave biopsies are rare, however in some cases they may bleed excessively or become infected. If you suspect you have either of these issues please contact the clinic. Do note that shave sites can take quite some time to heal, especially on the legs and feet.
